Penarwyn House
Type: Bed & Breakfast
Built in 1894 by John De Cressey Treffry (High Sheriff of Cornwall) Penarwyn House is a large gentleman's residence with the size and style of a bygone age. Entering the large drive with its roundabout (built to enable horse and carriage forward travel in and out) you will find ample parking. The house stands in its own very private, mature gardens with a variety of plants and trees. It also has a walled garden with a Victorian fernery where you can sit in the sun or in the shade of an apple tree.
Mike and Jan offer a true Cornish welcome to one and all who stay with them. They have been in the hotel business since 1993 when they bought Chy-an-Mor in Penzance being one of the first to go totally non-smoking and taking it to the first 5 diamond rating in Penzance and St. Ives. They purchased Penarwyn in 2003 and have restored it to its former glory with the extras and thoughtful touches gained from their previous hotel experience, mixing antique and modern to give you the best of both worlds. They have been busy with all aspects of refurbishment, from 40 feet below ground level capping a mine shaft in the garden with 150 tonnes of concrete, to re-leading the roof, and with Jan's skill at interior design coming to the fore revamping the guests rooms and the 50 foot long hallways.
Opening in June 2005 they were delighted to be awarded 5 diamonds with the AA egg cup award for the very best of breakfasts. They offer 3 rooms, all with luxury sparkling clean en-suites with invigorating showers, and separate roll top baths, piles of fluffy white towels, bathrobes and candles for those romantic soaks. All rooms have digital TVs with DVD players, hair driers, room safes, tea/coffee, biscuits and the use of a guests fridge with fresh milk and water.
Nearby you will find the Eden Project and the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan.
