About

Talk: ‘A Breath of Fresh Air: Artists of the Newlyn School 1880 –1920’ by John Halkes

A group of like-minded painters came to the west of Cornwall in 1880; they not only profoundly influenced British Art but also transformed the way that the fishing village saw itself.

John Halkes, the former parish priest of Lanteglos, has been influential in the development of visual art in Cornwall. He has curated notable national exhibitions featuring the Newlyn School and was the director of Newlyn Orion, based at the Newlyn Gallery.

Saturday 28th January 2017, 2.30pm at Whitecross Village Hall, Lanteglos-by-Fowey PL23 1NF.
