About

FOWEY VALLEY MUSIC PRESENTS CLASSIC FM STARS

The annual Fowey Valley Music festival brings together classical music lovers in the beautiful Cornish seaside town of Fowey. Lined up for September 16th and 17th 2016 are two of Britain’s most popular classical musicians. Both clarinettist Emma Johnson, MBE, and Australian-born Craig Ogden are frequently heard on Classic FM.

With Ambrose Miller, Director of the King’s Lynn Festival and Director-General of the European Union Chamber Orchestra at its helm, Fowey Valley Music is able to attract high-calibre international stars of classical music. It is also fortunate in having such a wealth of young musical talent on its doorstep that it is able to stage a Coffee Concert featuring the cream of young musical talent from the south west.

FVM complements and follows on from the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature held every year in May and is the event to look forward to once the town has dusted itself down after Fowey’s famous, fun-filled Regatta in August. The first FVM festival, in 2015, set the bar high with appearances by award-winning violinist Tasmin Little and celebrated trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins, accompanied on the piano by the equally distinguished Leslie Pearson.

Lined up for the 2016 festival is Emma Johnson, who shot to fame as a BBC Young Musician of the Year. She has become one of Britain’s most popular woodwind players and one of very few clarinettists to have established a busy solo career, which has taken her to major venues all over the world. In Fowey she will be joined by pianist John Lenehan whose performances and recordings have also met with universal acclaim. Emma will be giving a Pre-concert Talk for Friends of FVM, followed by a drink and finger food. Also appearing at the festival is Australian-born classical guitarist, Craig Ogden, one of the UK’s most recorded and highly acclaimed artists. Entitled ‘Fantasy to Flamenco’, Craig Ogden’s programme in Fowey is almost a miniature history of the guitar. It will include music from our Elizabethan age through to jazz and flamenco.

The FVM organizers are keen to make the concerts as accessible as possible both in terms of ticket prices (attend all three concerts and you pay just £25) and the range of music. In this way they hope to attract not only staunch classical music lovers, but also to open the eyes and ears of a wider public to a whole new world!
