Information for Dog Owners
With the beautiful sandy beaches, wide open spaces and scenic coastal path, Fowey and the surrounding area is a delight for any dog.
Here is some information that may assist you and your dog in getting the best out of Fowey.

Beaches
All year dog friendly beachesin the Fowey area:
Coombe Haven - 15 minute walk through steep wooded valley, no facilities.
Polridmouth Beach - 15 minute walk from car park through farm, no facilities.
Par Sands - Parking, toilets, shop/café.
Spit Beach - 10 minute walk from car park, no facilities.
Lantic Bay - steep cliff path, strong rip currents, no facilities.
Lantivet Bay - steep cliff path, no facilities.


Winter only dog friendly beaches (no dogs between Easter day and 1st October):
Whitehouse beach(low tide only) -10 minutes walk from car park and town centre, toilets.
Readymoney beach - 5 minutes from beach car park, 20 minutes from town centre, toilets.
Polkerris Beach - 5 minutes from car park, toilets, pub.

Eating Out
Many pubs locally are happy to take dogs while you have a drink or a meal.
To be sure though we suggest that you contact establishments that you wish to visit first.

Walking
The Bodinnick, Polruan and Mevagissey ferries take dogs giving access to the coastal footpath in both directions and also the Hall Walk.

When using the coastal footpath and other public footpaths with your dog please remember the country side code:
Enjoy the countryside and respect its life and work.
Guard against all risk of fire.
Fasten all gates.
Keep your dogs under close control.
Keep to public paths across farmland.
Use gates and stiles to cross fences, hedges and walls.
Leave livestock, crops and machinery alone.
Take your litter home.
Help to keep all water clean.
Protect wildlife, plants and trees.
Take special care on country roads.
Make no unnecessary noise.

Useful Information
Please pick up after your dog and use the dog waste bins provided.
You may be fined if you do not do this.
Beaches are patrolled most and officers will enforce the Dogs (fouling of Land) Act 1996.


Please remember to ensure that dogs are not left in cars in hot weather.
Beaches do not provide much shade or fresh water and can lead to heat related problems.


Dog wardens patrol the area around Fowey if you lose your dog please contact the local council as soon as possible to ensure that you are not put to any extra expense for kennelling. Restormel Borough Council (for Fowey, St Austell, Lostwithiel and Newquay area).

All dogs are required by law to wear a collar and tag.
When on holiday it is a good idea to have a temporary tag with your holiday address on it.


Many local attractions allow dogs, however, we strongly advise that you check with them first.
