Toynes CL

About

Toynes House CL was established as a Caravan Club certificated location some thirty-five years ago, the site having undergone significant investment and improvements in the last two years. It is well situated at Castledore, just over two miles to the north of Fowey between the picturesque villages of Golant, which is on the Fowey river, and Tywardreath. Both have good pubs which serve food. Toynes is on a good bus route between Fowey and Mevagissey and is very popular with motor caravanners for that reason. There is also a pleasant dog walk within the grounds of Toynes.

Castledore was the site of the Tristan and Isolde legend and the castle of King Mark, the outline of which lies across the crossroads from Toynes in a commanding position, which was also the site of a civil war battle.

Toynes House was built in an Art Deco style in the 1930s by Mr Toynes, a former army officer who become a Fowey shipping broker. In the Second World War the local home guard were allowed to keep a look out over St Austell Bay from the flat roof at Toynes providing they wore slippers so as not to wake Mr Toynes!

There are plenty of electric hookups, three water points, plus chemical disposal and grey waste points, a recycling area and information hut along with hardstanding areas around the field. We are unable to take tents unless as a satellite to a caravan or motorhome.
