Summer at The Shipwreck Museum

About

Dive in for adventure at the award-winning Shipwreck Treasure Museum at Charlestown this summer.

The Shipwreck Treasure Museum that overlooks Charlestown’s UNESCO World Heritage site harbour has launched a special guidebook for the school summer holidays that puts young visitors at the forefront of a family visit to Europe’s largest private collection of shipwreck artefacts. The collection extends to more than 8000 items recovered from more than 150 shipwrecks, the earliest recoveries featured are from a Phoenician wreck that date back to approximately 500 BC.

A copy of the new guidebook, which is included in the museum’s admission price, will be given to each family, and designed for children to take the reins and guide their family through Europe’s largest private collection of shipwreck artefacts.

The guide explains shipwreck treasure and focusses on the stories of key vessels lost at sea with tasks to hunt down specific artefacts from each that are on display. There is also a QR code link to more related activities on the museum’s website so the fun can continue when you get home.

It’s the perfect visit for the whole family, particularly on overcast or rainy days or when it’s just too hot outside.

The museum is open seven day a week from 10am to 5pm daily. To find out more and pre-book timed entry tickets visit www.shipwreckcharlestown.co.uk.
