Fowey Regatta and Carnival Week 2018

About

The Fowey Regatta is a must visit for anyone in Cornwall during August – visitors come from around the world to enjoy all there is to see and do!

There’s always a packed calendar of events – in 2018 from 19-25 August.

From Boats to Floats, Rafts to Royalty..

Some events are regulars – everyone loves the spectacle of Wednesday’s Carnival procession (sets off from Squires Field at 7.15pm) through town, featuring locals and visitors in a weird and wonderful array of costumes – with prizes for the best dressed. Throughout Carnival Day, the town’s traders also deck out their shops and cafes and dress up according to a theme. Expect some truly amazing outfits!

Little ones love the Giant Pasty ceremony, in which the iconic pasty arrives by boat from Polruan – as well as magicians, the crab catching contest and a visit from Newquay Zoo. For the more active there’s a fun run, harbour swimming races, gig racing and raft race. And the town’s Flora Dance sees everyone dressed in white and bedecked with flowers, dancing though the town accompanied by a marching band.

With live music daily and nightly on the Town Quay to suit every taste, fireworks both on Monday night and a spectacular display to mark the end of Regatta on Saturday, it’s one week you’ll want to come back to again and again.

We are excited to add a few more new acts into the programme. The Red Devils will perform at our Fowey Regatta Week. The Red Devils are the British Army’s official parachute display team, widely acknowledged as among the best display parachutists in the world.

Cornwall’s favourite homegrown comedian Kernow King - AKA Edward Rowe - will make a return to Fowey after two sell-out shows here in 2014.

King Creature, will be rocking our stage, a Cornish hard-rock band with a huge following who were catapulted into the limelight at 2015 Eden Sessions where they opened for heavy metal giants Motörhead to a fantastically receptive crowd. They’ve also played twice at the Looe Music Festival and will be on Fowey Town Quay on Saturday.

Nineties favourite Kelly Llorenna, from NTrance, will be getting the crowds dancing with the act’s smash hit Set You Free, as well as other tracks on Tuesday, August 21.

Monday night (August 20) will host ‘Lee Trewhela presents…’ - hand picked up-and-coming Cornish talent from the Cornwall Live music critic.

Andy Marshall, ‘Cornwall’s Frank Sinatra’, will be making a return to Fowey, as will Cornwall’s own Not The Beatles tribute band, both playing the Town Quay stage.

The Regatta is also one of the UK’s best known sailing events. There’s a full programme of races, including the famous Troys, a class of sailing boat built only in Fowey.
