A bedtime story to set the world on fire!

At the water’s edge, beneath the shade of an ancient tree, a mother forms a perimeter to protect herself and her child from an unspeakable darkness.

The tide ebbs and flows, the years pass, and the boy is taught stories of the dangers that lay beyond the safety of her embrace. 

But one day the boy awakes to find his mother is gone…

and a stranger arrives at the perimeter’s edge.

The boy must walk out into a new world. A world of gods and monsters.

This summer… Wildworks invites you to let your imagination run wild on a journey of impossibility. Take a deep dive into the darkest depths of your consciousness and rewrite the stories that try to define us.

Dark, humorous, fiery and honest… ‘I AM KEVIN’ is a provocation to rediscover the power and possibility that lies beneath the surface of us all.

Internationally renowned, Cornwall-based theatre company Wildworks is delighted to announce the location of its brand-new summer 2022 show. I AM KEVIN, described as a ‘bedtime story to set the world on fire’, will be performed in the stunning setting of Carlyon Beach at the heart of St Austell Bay this August.  And in true Wildworks’ fashion, the team is already bedding down into the community through a series of engaging events, intriguing workshops and welcoming drop-in sessions to which all are invited.

More than a beach, this sandy stretch of coastline is a truly unique open-air venue and will form the perfect backdrop to what is set to be an incredible and thought-provoking show, performed alfresco in a Covid safe environment. Carlyon Beach is privately owned and welcomes the community year-round in different capacities, whether through water sports, food and drink pop-ups or immersive theatre performances.

Through ‘I AM KEVIN’, showgoers will be invited to let their imaginations run wild on a journey of impossibility, joining a young boy on his eventful quest to find the light in the darkness. Set against the stunning backdrop of Carlyon Beach this ‘new fairytale to set the world on fire’ will invite audiences to take a deep dive into the depths of our consciousness with a provocation to rewrite the stories that try to define us.

This new show will follow Wildworks’ internationally renowned, highly effective, process for creating high-quality professional theatre experience with an inclusive participatory community process at its heart. True to their word, the team will be out and about working with the local people in and around St Austell to develop the show alongside a rigorous programme of engagement.
