In Search of Tywardreath are a community group investigating the lost priory of Tywardreath, the history/archaeology/architecture of the village and surrounding area. There were people living there from the Bronze Age, through the Roman era, the priory dates from 1100's to 1500's,  there was a very busy mining community in the 1800's and much more.

Daphne du Maurier was a well know local figure who lived nearby and in 2019 we are celebrating her publishing "The House on the Strand" 50 years ago. Tywardreath means House on the Strand in Cornish.

The group are hosting a series of events including...

11th May 6.30pm Talk by Ian Mortimer at Well Street Chapel £10, with refreshments tickets available from CRBO .

Ian Mortimer is best known, as the author of The Time Traveller's Guides: three have been completed to date, namely Medieval England (2008); Elizabethan England (2012) and Restoration Britain (2017); a fourth (Regency Britain) is currently in progress. He is also known as James Forrester, whose novels are a trilogy set in the 1560s, featuring a herald called William Harley, Clarenceux King of Arms, and a document that comes to his possession that suggests that Queen Elizabeth is illegitimate and thus has no right to the throne.

18th May Church tower open to public 10am to 4pm

19th May Service of Community Spirit at St Andrew’s Church, 11am all are welcome the community working as one , refreshments afterwards

21st to 25th May  -The Play The House on the Strand performed by Tywardreath Players  at Marsh Villa Garden tickets available from CRBO

25th May 10am to 4pm Medieval Street Fayre, to be opened by Sir Richard Rashleigh, stalls, exhibitions, Maypole Dancing, games, archery, hog roast and much more.
