Title: The Creative Conversation, Flock project

Date: Friday 5 July

Time: 11.30am to 2.30pm

Price: £1.00 per pupil

Description: Join the Flock for a creative conversation. A series of dance, movement, creative writing and art workshops. Describe to us your favourite places and your experience of Wheal Martyn, directing our movement choices through your ideas. To book, please email gmartin@wheal-martyn.com.

 

Title: Relaxed Sessions

Date: Sunday 7 July

Time: 9am to 10am and 5pm to 6pm.

Price: Normal admission

Description: If you prefer to enjoy the museum at a quieter pace, why not come along to our Relaxed Session on Sunday 7 July, 9am to 10am or 5pm to 6pm. These sessions are especially suited to people with autism, anxiety and associated conditions. Title: Woodland Animal Headbands

Date: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July

Time: 10am to 5pm

Price: FREE

Description: Get creative and fashion your own woodland animal headband! Discover Wheal Martyn’s Nature Reserve and pick your favourite nature items to decorate your headband with. Then pick up your free headband template from reception and get creative in our ‘Make and Take’ station. Drop in between 10.00am – 5.00pm to take part. Which woodland animal will you be?

 

Title: Pottery Painting

Date: Monday 29 July, Tuesday 6 August, Thursday 15 August, Friday 23 August, Thursday 29 August

Time: 10.30am to 15.30pm

Price: £1 to £3.50

Description: This summer, join us at Wheal Martyn in discovering the beautiful creations artists make out of Cornish china clay. Feeling inspired? Why not paint your own ceramic to take home with you? Choose from bird feeders, tea lights, egg cups and so much more. A perfect Wheal Martyn memento for all of the family. There is a small fee of £1 to £3.50 to pay for the cost of ceramics. No need to book, just drop in between 10.30am and 15.30pm. All ages welcome - fun for all the family!

Why not paint your own ceramic to take home with you? Choose from bird feeders, tea lights, egg cups and so much more. A perfect Wheal Martyn memento.

 

Title: Clay Stories

Description: Join our expert volunteers, as they share their own stories of the clay industry. Discover what life was like working in the china clay mines and explore how the industry has changed today.

 

Title: Clay Animation Workshop

Date: Wednesday 31 July

Time: Workshop 1:10.30am to 12pm, Workshop 2: 1pm to 2.30pm and Workshop 3: 3pm to 4.30pm.

Price: £6 per child or 2 for £10. No charge for accompanied adults.

Description: Come and create a brilliant animated film about how china clay is mined and used in Cornwall. Create plasticine characters and make them come to life with the magic of stop motion animation. Work in small groups and use cameras and laptops to tell a story. The finished film will be ready to download from the internet when completed. Spaces are limited, so please book for the workshops in advance by contacting reception on 01726 850362 or info@wheal-martyn.com

 

Title: Rocket Workshop

Date: Thursday 1 August

Time: 11am to 12pm and 2pm to 3pm

Description: Three, two, one…blast off! Did you know that kaolin (china clay) is used on the heat shields of rockets, due to its heat resistance qualities? Drop-in to one of our workshops on Thursday 1 August and make your very own rocket.

 

Title: Badger Forest School

Date: Friday 2 August, Friday 16 August

Time: 11am to 1pm.

Price: £40 for a family of four or £22 for a family of two which includes museum entry.

Description:Join Badger Forest School in the woods at Wheal Martyn for a variety of exciting outdoor activities. Children and families can take part in:

– Nature trails through the woods

– Campfire cooking

– Mask making and nature crafts

– Shelter building

– Mini-beast hunts

– Den building and woodland creatures

Description: Pop along to Wheal Martyn’s first art picnic. Enjoy choosing from various art supplies and make your own beautiful creations outside. Food will not be included. Fun for all the family.

Description: Come and have fun at Wheal Martyn’s first Game Extravaganza. There will be something for everyone in this fun-filled family day, from making your own gaming consoles out of objects, to competing in classic family board games.

Description: Get hands on and create your very own clay hand imprint to take home with you. Decorate your creation with beautiful beads and nature items scavenged onsite in our nature reserve. Fun for all the family, costing only 50p

Description: Bingo! See who can find all of the nature items first whilst exploring Wheal Martyn’s nature reserve. Don’t forget to shout BINGO when you have all the items and retrieve your prize from reception.

Title: Artyology at Wheal Martyn with local artists Suzy Johnson and Lynn Simms: Clay Landscape Drawing

Description: This week, Suzy and Lynn will be showing you how the clay landscape can be used as inspiration for drawings.The white pyramids surrounding Wheal Martyn are one the most iconic symbols of the china clay industry. Although they could be seen as just the spoils of the industry, the pyramids have become part of the identity of the area and a reminder of the importance of the industry. Artyology are offering a series of art workshops focusing on clay heritage, by exploring the site at Wheal Martyn, including the opportunity to make your very own onsite drawings. The art works produced will be exhibited as part of the White Gold festival on Saturday 21st September at Wheal Martynand installed on the clay trails leading up to Wheal Martyn. All are warmly welcome and the workshops are suitable for ages 8+, including adults. No previous art experience is necessary and you are welcome to attend all of the workshop in the series. Please wear suitable clothing for mess and weather. The workshops are free, but usual museum entry still applies. No need to book, just drop-in to the museum.

 

Title: Clay Faces in the Woods

Date: Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August

Time: 10am to 5pm

Description:If you go down to Wheal Martyn’s woods, what type of faces do you think you will find? Join in the fun and create your very own clay face on one of our trees and keep a lookout for other creations too. Look carefully at the trees to find shapes which can be used in your design. Don’t forget to forage for leaves, sticks and feathers to add to your face too. Fun for all the family, costing only 50p.

Title: Paper-making workshop with artist Carol Weir

Date: Wednesday 21 August, Wednesday 28 August

Description: Join local artist Carol Weir and try your hand at making a decorative shape of handmade paper. You will be able to use white or coloured paper pulp to make a shape using a cookie cutter as a mould. Why not get even more creative and add some petals, leaves or seeds into the mix? This workshop is drop-in and suitable for all ages.

Artyology are offering a series of art workshops focusing on clay heritage, by exploring the site at Wheal Martyn, including the opportunity to take your very own photographs. Please bring your own mobile phone or digital camera. The photographs will be exhibited as part of the White Gold festival on Saturday 21st September at Wheal Martyn and installed on the clay trails leading up to Wheal Martyn. All are warmly welcome and the workshops are suitable for ages 8+, including adults. No previous art experience is necessary and you are welcome to attend all of the workshop in the series. Title: Teddy Bear Picnic

Description: Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic. Wheal Martyn’s teddy bears are getting a bit lonely and would like to invite all of their friends to a picnic. There will be lots of wonderful games to play and the bears will be sure of a treat today. Squash and biscuits will be provided, but please feel welcome to bring your own food or ask for our picnic boxes from the café.
